1-2-2008 - The Original Punk Rawk Elvis Singer Arrested At Political Protest

UPDATE - 10-2-2008: Check bottom YouTube!
UPDATE 2: 3-3-08 Elvis goes to court

I was checking MySpace this morning and spotted several bulletins all with the same subject, including one from Elvis Knievel , aka Freddie C!, about his arrest Wednesday at a protest outside the Reagan Library. It was complete with pictures depicting him first, dressed in his Elvis attire and holding a sign which read, "Who Would Elvis Bomb", next a cop gets him in the middle of the street and the pics continue until he's shown being handcuffed and then the cop car taking him away to jail.

This happened in Simi Valley, a very conservative city, known for its brutal cops. The event was a Republican debate with Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul, John McCain and Mitt Romney. Knievel is a really cool guy with a both a great sense of humor and an intense dislike of Bush. He and his wife have been activists for years and even helped the Red Cross after Katrina.

The cops must have thought he was a nut-job and decided to get him out of there. Arrested, thrown to the ground, handcuffed for jay walking? The following is his MySpace blog entry:
I have misdemeanor charges pending against me that I'd rather not be convicted of, so I need to censor my thoughts somewhat here. I'm sure that after the criminal element of this incident is revolved I'll probably write more extensively. I was at the Reagan Library for the Presidential Republican debates (01-30-08) dressed as my alter-ego Elvis Knievel. I was protesting the war and Republican hypocracy. Suffice to say that my protesting drew the attention and ire of the Simi Valley Police Department. They deemed it in the public's interest to arrest me and that led to my "interaction" with Simi's finest. I'm not going to comment on whether or not I was treated properly, but I will say that I'm definately "feeling the burn" today. Let's just say that my aging, overwieght body was tested. haha! I go to court Feb 27th. We'll see what happens!?!? You can see some pics of my bust in my pic section
I checked the local paper, Ventura County Star, and only under the local cities section was the story and of course the writer got it all wrong. It focused on a 13 year-old who was holding a Huckabee sign and then reading down I read, "Another man dressed as Elvis held a "Republicon Master Debaters" sign in the middle traffic divider on Madera Road until police moved him to the side of the street." Unless his sign had two sides with different messages, that's bollocks. I've seen the pictures. He wasn't just moved to the side of the road. One person commented, "Elvis ended up getting arrested." [I heard from him and his sign did have two sides.]

The Original Punk Rawk Elvis, members of the Nardcore scene, have a new CD out, "Disgraceland". It should be dedicated to Simi Valley or Slimey Valley as it's called on a punk compilation. I doubt he'll be protesting until after this ridiculous situation is resolved. The charges should be dropped.

What would Elvis think?
