It shows? The look of consternation, the eyebrow arching? How could it not. Yesterday when I heard that some dirty pornographer had pictures of Jessica Lynch in the nude, I had to ask, already knowing the answer. Larry. As in Flynt. I felt my stomach do a little lurch when I followed the link to a New York sleaze site that made his buying them so ugly that I started for the first time ever feeling deeply disappointed in something he did.
Ohboy, I was going to paste part of that New York sleaze article, "Jessica Hustled" only to discover just now it's been rewritten. It ran tabloid-like with "A skin mag claimed yesterday it has pictures of Iraqi POW Jessica Lynch frolicking topless with male soldiers before she went off to war.", followed with a subhead sneering they were absolutely going to be published. Today it's the same headline, only the subhead has been changed to "Porn mag pulls plan to run topless pics of G.I." Though they're making like it's another article, a companion to yesterday's in order to jibe with other reports, if the date is changed a day back in the url, it's the same story as today's.
The mofo media, I'm sure glad I saw the original yesterday, and wish like hell I could prove it it said in the first paragraph, if not line, he was going to run them in February. Only now do they print a quote, to AP I surmise, of Flynt saying at first he was going to do it and then changed his mind. I think that statement was made for shock value and wouldn't be surprised if he got a chuckle out of saying it. Then again, maybe the thought did cross his mind and his true nature won out. From another article. "Some things are more important than money," he said. "You gotta do the right thing."
These writers have obviously never met the real LF. The political side of Larry Flynt is the one I had dinners and a few visits with, who told me his life's story right after he got out of prison and it was exactly what his late wife Althea had told me about him. If anyone ever heard him talk and air his views with no news people around, just cronies and those of like-mind, their opinions of him would change. This guy's a pornographer? This eloquent speaking, highly intelligent, politically astute, humorous person? Hustler is just one of the magazines he publishes, yet that's where all the focus goes.
The timing on all this couldn't be stranger. Lynch's ordeal is still in question, the rape charges vehemently denied, her memory, the attention, the book, the movie, and now word of nude pictures. Larry or no Larry, the pictures would be known and most likely published in some wretched rag. The last person in the world I would hate to be now is Jessica Lynch. How could she in her wildest imagination visualize what lie ahead when she joined the army. If only she had the gift of foresight. Her life will never be the same again, but she will have been spared the embarrassment of the world seeing her nude.
I was so impressed she had the guts to speak out about how she was just a pawn in a great big chess game. I can understand her mental confusion, if I were her I'd be getting a new face, identity and heading for parts unknown. How much is too much?? So, this brings this back to Larry, no stranger to the spotlight, either. The man has a heart and a conscience and knows too well the damage his already beaten-to-a-bloody-pulp person has taken.
The Republicans have always had a huge hate-on for Flynt, going way back as he exposed their dirty dealings, the government going so far as to put a hit out on him, but it didn't stop him, not one bit. The gov has the media by the short hairs and smear Larry has been a mission. When he said he was putting the Lynch pictures in a vault with some very important others, he wasn't kidding.
Wellwell, these weren't present yesterday, I'm twitching at the corners, a smile waiting to happen, Nynewsday.com has a piece called "The Arbiter of Good Taste, Larry Flynt". Hmm. Reading on, however, the writer has to show that he holds disdain for Flynt when he says stuff like this:You know we're in trouble when we have to count on the good graces of Larry Flynt to bring restraint and dignity to the big story of the day.
Well, maybe not dignity. But this much is true: The foul-mouthed pornographer in the gold-plated wheelchair actually exhibited a modicum of restraint yesterday.
But now the newly high-minded smut merchant was choosing only to taunt the plucky blond private from Palestine, W. Va., instead of exposing any more of her than had already been exposed. Obviously he's never met Larry Flynt. Dammit, why don't they stop this character assassination, hasn't it gotten old? Ok, on to the next round of spin the bottle.
It landed on abc.net.au. This was fair, the way it should be written:Larry Flynt 'protects' topless Jessica Lynch photos
Porn king Larry Flynt, casting himself in the unlikely role of white knight to US Army private Jessica Lynch, says he bought semi-nude photos of the former POW "to keep them out of circulation."
The Hustler publisher and free speech crusader said he acquired the snapshots of Lynch from two soldiers who served with her.
Mr Flynt, a vocal critic of the Iraq conflict, described Lynch as a pawn in the US Government's "cynical attempt to create a 'hero' who can 'sell' the war to the American people." "But Jessica Lynch is not a hypocrite," he said. "She's a victim of the media and the Government, co-conspirators desperate to justify the war in Iraq. I could keep citing examples of how this was angled, but there's no need. They all have their slant, most grudgingly giving Larry props, but not without their snide 'pornographer' bits. I'm sure I'm the only one writing anything positive about him, and I'm sure there are those who will question my doing so, but they haven't met the man. He is a hero and I fervently hope someday the truth will be known about the real Larry Flynt. Jessica, thank him.
"She's very much a pawn for the government. They force-fed us a Joan of Arc."
